Bruce Kent – Workplace Curriculum Advisor

Bruce Kent is a seasoned executive specializing in Human Resources with a 20 plus year track record of achievement in a large, complex organization. A teacher and team builder, he has experience in talent development, recruitment, engagement, leadership and compensation systems.

Starting his career in Labour Relations, Bruce spent many years negotiating contracts with Labour Unions across Western Canada. As the Vice President of Human Resources with Westfair Foods and later the Senior VP with Loblaw Companies in Western Canada, he was responsible for the Human Resources, Labour Relations and Corporate Services including Health and Safety, Public Affairs and Customer Service. During his tenure with Loblaws, Bruce led training initiatives, implemented leadership development programs, designed compensation plans and was involved with transformational change management.

Recently, Bruce joined the University of Calgary teaching courses in Human Resources. He has an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from Simon Fraser University.

Dr. Brian Shaw

Dr. Brian F. Shaw is one of the originators of applied cognitive-behavioural psychology (“Cognitive Therapy”) for clinical practice, particularly mental health and addiction problems. He is an expert on how the mind works, how it gets de-railed, and how to get it back on track. He is the principal of BFS Consulting, a sports and entertainment consulting firm based in Toronto, Canada focusing on elite performance in the public eye.

He received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Western Ontario in 1975 following a B.Sc. in physiology at the University of Toronto where he is currently a Professor of Psychiatry and Public Health Science. Scientifically he was named one of the 50 highest-impact authors in psychology.

In sports, Dr. Shaw is well known as the co-director of the NHL/NHLPA Substance Abuse and Behavioural Health Program. He also co-directs the behavioral health program for Major League Soccer (MLS/ MLSPA). Dr. Shaw is the psychologist for the Toronto Blue Jays and several other professional and Olympic level athletes. He was recently a featured speaker at the player development forum hosted by the NBA, NFL, and the NHL on the topic “managing anxiety in athletes”, at the 2007 seminar hosted by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) on “Teen Addiction” and at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Business on “Addiction and the Workplace”. He just completed consulting with the LPGA program on drug testing.

Dr. Shaw is a content advisor of Respect Group Inc. and plays a key role in shaping the curriculum that focuses on the prevention of discrimination, harassment and bullying in the workplace.
